Welcome to the 2016-17 school year!
The staff at Berg is looking forward to the new school year and anticipating some exciting days ahead. Our school year will be filled with many new schedules, classes, teachers, and friends. We hope that everyone is excited to start this “new beginning”. The theme at Berg is “The Great Adventure!”
The staff at Berg is dedicated to meeting each student where they are socially and academically and helping them reach new social and academic PEAKS. Berg’s guidelines for success go along with our Great Adventure theme. Our guidelines for success include focusing on preparedness, engagement, attitude and kindness:
The staff and I would like to extend a special welcome to all the new students and their families to Berg. If you have any concerns or ideas you wish to share throughout the school year, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or myself. The Berg staff is committed to providing a safe, positive learning environment for each of our students.
The school year is off to a good start and lots of kids are, “bright eyed and bushy tailed”. This is the metaphor that Mrs. Urlacher, the school counselor, used to explain to the students the importance of coming to school well groomed, rested, and ready to learn. The dress code of Berg Elementary is in place so that clothes do not detract from the learning environment. Clothing should be modest and age appropriate. During the dress code expectation lesson, students learned about using three fingers to measure the width of tank tops and that shorts and skirts cover the mid-thigh. Leggings are an accessory and tops or skirts need to cover the leggings to the mid-thigh. Clothes and accessories should not have any offensive slogans that include drugs, alcohol, violence or inappropriate words. Our culture is ever changing and we respect that, but to keep all students safe, hats, caps, and hoods must be taken off during class time and stored in lockers. Gym is always a fun time to run and jump and enjoy physical activity so students need to wear soft soled shoes during gym class. If a student chooses to wear a summer style shoe they can always bring a pair of sneakers to change into before gym. Students are not allowed to change clothes for gym class in sixth grade.
The Dickinson BackPack Program is a food program which provides school age children with extra food on the weekends and school breaks.
The food in the back packs includes easy to prepare food, snacks and beverages.
If your child(ren) could benefit from this program, please request a BackPack Release form from the office and return it with your authorization for your child to participate.
