Berg Elementary celebrated the end of the first quarter with a Tailgate Celebration the afternoon of October 28th. Students attended presentations and activities conducted by Annette Neubert, an archaeologist with the ND Bureau of Land Management, Curt Olson, a meteorologist with KFYR TV, the DHS Mad Scientists, led by DHS teacher Denna Venneman and the DSU Football team.
During the first quarter, the Berg Staff concentrated on teaching the skill of being prepared. Over the course of the first quarter 47% of our students were prepared 100% of the time and 77% of our students had two or less late assignments. Parents can assist us in teaching students to be prepared by visiting with their child about their planner/agenda as well as establishing a regular schedule for students to do their homework.
Each year in November, Berg Elementary and schools across our country celebrate American Education Week. This year it will be celebrated from November 14-18. This week presents citizens in Dickinson and across the country with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference by ensuring that every child receives a quality education. My challenge to you is to find a way to show appreciation to one of the dedicated teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, kitchen staff or secretaries that serve your child here at Berg. I appreciate your assistance in letting our staff know that their contribution to your child’s education matters.
Our Changing II Program for sixth graders will take place this month. This program is a cooperative project between Dickinson Public Schools, Southwest District Health Unit, Partners in Parenting and the Dickinson State University Nursing program. This course includes material on the physical and emotional changes of puberty, and how to handle them. It also includes information on how to stay healthy by avoiding risky behaviors.
Parental permission is required for participation in this program and letters have been sent through the mail. Parent/student sessions are planned from 7:00 – 8:30 PM on the following dates:
Nov. 3rd – Classes: Mrs. Stroud, Mrs. Schlecht, Mrs. Janke, Mr. R. Kovash, Mrs. Levorsen, and Mr. C. Kovash
Nov. 14th – Classes: Mrs. Schaeffer, Mrs. Schobinger, and Mr. Sobolik
